Calvià is located in the western part of the island of Mallorca, next to Serra de Tramuntana, the main mountain in the Balearic Islands, and extends to Serra de Na Burguesa. Santa Ponça´s resort started to be built between 1928 and 1930. It was mainly composed by summer residences, with a garden city planning. The process was disrupted by the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent isolation of the country until the 1960´s, when the urban development went on -especially between 1970 and 1980-, though with a different urban planning from the one of a garden city that was formerly projected.
